ARE YOU THE ONE

More of your wonder,
I long to discover -
Love at 'first sight'?
Maybe -
Strangers that met in virtual space
The connection so immediate
I see you,
Yet I long to see you.
Could you be the one?
Intact,
Unsullied,
Like a white piece of china,
With the deep gold of innocence,
Emblazoned.
Like music to my ears,
Is your 'voice' in its silence...
Yes I 'hear' you,
Yet still,
I long to hear you
Could you be the one?

Silence

They say silence is golden,
But I wonder –
What was golden,
About the deafening silence,
That tore apart my ears,
When the vuvuzela sounds died down,
In the aftermath of the World Cup?
Please tell me what was golden,
About the eerie silence of my house,
When just my voice echoed and echoed
In the rooms and corridors
After all the children had moved out?
Surely what was golden,
About the silence of my bedroom,
When my wife,
So full of laughter and stories, died?

The Morning After

I was angry,
Bitter
After it was all done

The warmth of that night
In your arms
A night of passion and fire
Paled in the cold angry morning light
filled with a cold taste of ashes

I felt let-down,
  Angry,
Full regret and self-loathing
In my drunken stupor.

Cosseted away at that lodge
I had given myself to you,

An offering an the altar of lust
As if you were a sex god.

Brown Sugar

Natural but sweet,
Such is your taste,
The taste of brown sugar
Sweeter than honey,
Raw sugar from Chiredzi cane,
I’d lick you to heaven if I could,
And let the sugar drip on my tongue!

Rugare

Ndicharuwanawo here rugare?
Ko yangu nhamo,
Zvainenge yechipikirwa?
Ko iko kusemesa kwayo?
Kunge rupasa rwezerere,
Kana ndove yemunhu
Ko inga vamwe,
Vanongokwesha shure nemadhora?
Ndingaanongewo kupi?
Ndingaruwane kupi rugare?
